In 2016, Facebook joined Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Twitter in creating their own versions of those little icons that form the social vernacular of the internet.
I joined a team of talented illustrators and set out to design around 300 emojis in the food, objects, activities, travel and flags categories - adhering to a strict style guide, colour palette, and an aim to create depth almost entirely in vector.
A series of fun side-projects coincided with my emoji work - creating icons for the Facebook suite of applications, designing marketing materials and swag for Facebook Design, and branding for internal teams.

In order for them to look perfect at all sizes, our emojis were designed on a 20x20 pixel canvas and scaled up for all platforms and screen sizes as SVGs. The composition had to be clean and crisp regardless of size.

Greeting card designs for our glorious creations.

Postcards and pin badges for those charming yellow faces.

A poster design for the team’s Emoji Hackathon event.

Logos and swag created with a retro mountaineering theme for the team’s yearly Android & iOS summits events.

Branding for internal design teams.
